with a radiant creation by Allison Hawkes
2022 is the year of the Water Tiger. It started on February 1st, 2022 and ends on January 21st, 2023. A Water Tiger year occurs every 60 years; the last one was in 1962. Years of the Tiger include 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938…
The Smithsonian Institution explains that the Chinese zodiac rotates through a 12-year cycle of animals and the traditional five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The Tiger ushers in the third year of the 12-year cycle, following the Year of the Ox. Dating from as early as 1000 BCE, the traditional Chinese method of counting years is based on the sixty-year rotation of the planet Jupiter (known as the “year star”) around the sun. The 12 animals, in sequence are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
According to superstition, a person born in a particular year takes on the traits of that year’s animal. Laura Lau, co-author of The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes, said people born in the Year of the Tiger tend to be powerful, rebellious, dynamic, adventurous, fiery, impulsive and unpredictable. Tigers also typically have strong ethics, so they are very passionate about causes. Tigers are known to be confident, with very strong personalities; yet they are very charming and well-liked by others. Famous people born in Years of the Tiger include Queen Elizabeth II, Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stevie Wonder, Alec Guinness and many more!
