From the runway to the club scene, and even daytime TV, you will find the popular paperclip link necklace everywhere. Now a hot street look, it's time to discuss how this beautiful gold link can be worn.
No, it’s not exactly a paperclip connected one by one, but rather an 80’s vibe with a slightly modern twist to fit today’s current culture. The paperclip necklace of today is characterized by gold elongated links, mostly with a flat edge, which is continuous. You will see different versions of this link; thin, chunky, long, short... It can even be used as a pendant chain to hang medallions and gemstones.
With so many options, it can get confusing. Let’s start with an elevated look. You can wear the paperclip in yellow or rose gold layered with a diamond necklace. Considering the occasion (i.e., social function, mother of the bride) will determine the size and style of the diamond necklace. For the biggest splash, a diamond tennis necklace is perfect. You can choose either a straight line with all diamonds the same size, or a Rivera necklace which has graduated diamonds with the largest in the front. If you choose a larger diamond necklace, I suggest wearing the paperclip necklace above, and in a smaller link size. If you choose a petit diamond necklace, diamond bar, or diamond pendant, I suggest wearing a slightly larger link paperclip chain underneath.
For an everyday, layered look, find a link size that’s best suited with what you already have, or create a new customized look. Multiple gold chains of various lengths are very in style. Alternatively, you can take a pendant or an enhancer (a pendant with a bail that opens and closes to fit onto various widths of chains, beads, or pearls) and have it attached to the chain. Another way to wear this new gold chain trend would be to bring the clasp around the front to create a “Y” shaped look. Again, very popular.
